I didn’t set out to become a business consultant. I started my career as a music teacher—driven by a passion to make a difference, to inspire change through education, and to build something meaningful in the lives of my students. I believed in the power of purpose, and I poured my heart into the work.

Then 2002 changed everything.

During the economic downturn, my position was eliminated at a small private school. My first child had just been born, and suddenly I was staring down a new reality. Teaching, as much as I loved it, wasn’t going to provide the future my family needed. I was burned out and uncertain—but open.

So I pivoted.

I landed in the financial services world in Des Moines, working in customer service. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was eye-opening. I learned how money moves. I began to understand how small businesses—not giant corporations—are the real engine of our economy. And I saw something alarming…

Baby Boomers owned two-thirds of all small businesses in America. And they were retiring—fast. Many had no exit strategy. No succession plan. No roadmap for passing on what they’d built.

That realization stuck with me. What would happen if those businesses just… vanished? What would happen to their employees? Their families? Their communities?

That’s when I found my new purpose.

I had began coaching frontline leaders. Then business owners. And over time, I saw the same pattern: too many founders had built themselves into a corner. No systems. No successors. No exit. And no real way to protect what they’d built.

I decided to change that.
